Product Description
Auxiliary Economizers for CDQ Waste Heat Boilers
Usage and Application
The Auxiliary Economizer is a core heat recovery component specifically designed for Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) waste heat boiler systems in the metallurgical and coking industries. In the CDQ process, red-hot coke is cooled using an inert circulating gas (primarily nitrogen). This high-temperature gas then passes through the CDQ waste heat boiler to generate steam.
The auxiliary economizer is positioned at the final heat-exchange stage of this loop. Its critical function is twofold: it extracts the last usable residual heat from the inert gas to preheat the boiler feedwater, and it ensures the circulating gas is cooled to the precise temperature required before it is blown back into the quenching chamber. For large-scale coking plants and EPC contractors, integrating a highly reliable auxiliary economizer is essential to maximize steam generation, protect the circulating fan, and maintain a stable, highly efficient dry quenching cycle.
Technical Advantages
Operating within a CDQ system presents unique challenges, most notably the presence of highly abrasive, high-velocity coke dust circulating within the inert gas stream. Our auxiliary economizers are heavily engineered to combat this severe erosion and prevent dust accumulation.
We utilize heavy-duty, thick-walled steel tubes configured with specialized pitching (spacing) to manage gas velocity and prevent particulate bridging. The heating surfaces are often equipped with advanced anti-wear shields at the impact zones. Furthermore, because the CDQ system operates in a closed inert gas loop, our economizer casings and tube penetrations feature zero-leakage, gas-tight structural sealing. This guarantees environmental safety, prevents the ingress of oxygen, and ensures continuous, high-efficiency commercial operation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Why is wear resistance so critical in a CDQ auxiliary economizer?
Unlike standard boiler flue gas, the inert gas in a CDQ system carries fine, highly abrasive coke particles. If the economizer is not designed with proper tube spacing, robust metallurgy, and protective shielding, this dust will rapidly erode the tubes, leading to catastrophic leaks and plant shutdowns.
-
What happens if the auxiliary economizer fails to cool the gas sufficiently?
If the gas exiting the economizer is too hot, it can severely damage the main circulating gas blower located immediately downstream. Furthermore, returning gas that is too warm to the quenching chamber reduces the efficiency of the entire coke-cooling process.
-
How do you clean the coke dust off the economizer tubes?
Our auxiliary economizers are designed to integrate seamlessly with automated rapping systems or specialized sootblowers, which mechanically dislodge accumulated coke dust so it can fall into the collection hoppers below, ensuring continuous heat transfer efficiency.
